 Straight from the broom, Otto transferred this idea to the world of electronics. There was a need to create a revolutionary contact that would withstand constant pressure and resistance, just like that of the broom. In 1955 Otto Dunkel GmbH received the patent for designing and developing a “spring-loaded plug pin”. The make and design of this connector were inspired by the twig broom. Today, this connector is known as the ODU SPRINGTAC connector.

In 1986, the company released a rectangular connector system that is quite popular in the world of electronics.  In 1992, the company celebrated another major milestone by launching the ODU MINI-SNAP connector. A series of product launches and iterations were witnessed in the company and 2011, it released the ODU AMC Circular connector system. Nine years later (2020), the company launched a mass interconnect system.
